Huddersfield Social Media Surgery

Planning the next surgeries in Huddersfield with Huddersfied Social which is a volunteer collective. This is a very exciting time as we are expanding our ideas so watch this space.

At the same time work is also becoming more expansive and I am working with local residents to deliver a neighbourhood social media network which they will manage themselves. Such good people living in the Rawthorpe and Dalton area. If you are one of those people and want to get involved, and have ideas, then contact me or pop in at the Rawthorpe and Dalton Library Information Centre and speak to Linda.

Having a varied week this Adult Learners week with things turning out not quite as planned but making tiny steps towards the big goal. What's that I hear you say?

Well it's not complicated, but very hard to achieve. It's good and wholesome but sometimes a little muddy. It's the colours of the rainbow, but also a big black hole. .. just kidding.

It is to give a voice to the people out there that matter in our society - it's you! .. and all the other yous out there.

Huddersfield Social Media Surgery

After a very successful Local Gov Camp in Birmingham and meeting the Birmingham bloggers and Social Media Surgery gurus, we decided to give it a go ourselves.
After much musing and a few informal meetings, and a certain degree of nervousness, we launched the first event on 16th November not really knowing who was going to turn up and whether we could actually help them.

The evening was a great success and the range of people who turned out was amazing (that sounded like you Thomas). From a councillor seeking help with a CMS admin problem to a retired lady looking to contact her relatives in New Zealand and everything in between. Many varied and interesting people looking to get started.

The venue was great - thanks to the Media Centre for helping us out with the venue, coffee and WiFi which worked.

Surgeons were marvellous and worth their weight in beer. Giving time and expertise is the best social networking promotion we can do.

Looking forward to the next one and hopefully getting more local people, groups and organisations into the boggersphere and beyond.
